KIDS MUSICAL TOYS - HOW CHILDREN DEVELOP: 6 - 12 Months

Hi Guys, well we have looked at what happens to baby in the first 6 months, so lets move on to the next 6 months, from 6 to 12 months.

Things are really starting to happen and your baby is starting to become a little person and much more interested in what's going on around and would probably benefit from a baby play mat. He or she will start to try and communicate (in a baby kind of way) by gurgling and maybe blowing bubbles, they will also start to sit up, turn over and before you know it, they are starting to crawl.

It is at this stage that you really need to have eyes in the back of your head, but it is so important to keep baby safe and make sure that everything that could be harmful, is out of reach as the word "No" has not much effect at this age. Its a good idea to get down on your hands and knees to get a baby's eye view of what is around that baby may like to pick up and put in its mouth.

Once baby is crawling it won't be long before they are trying to stand and take their first steps, so make sure that you protect them from any sharp edges on furniture with pillows or cushions, especially low tables.

I remember when my daughter was about 2 and she fell against the corner of a coffee table and cut her head open. I landed up at A&E with her under one arm and my 9 month old son under the other. Not a great experience.

Your baby will now be very curious and want to explore and play with all manner of things, so make sure they are only the things that you want them to play with like cot toys. Make sure you protect electrical outlets with safety plugs, remove electrical cords and lock cabinets.

Although not essential, at this stage you may want to think about a playpen, as this will allow you a little time to yourself once in a while.

KIDS MUSICAL TOYS - HOW DO CHILDREN LEARN - O - 6 Months

Hi Guys, it has been of great interest to me to try and understand how children learn during their various stages of development, so for the next few posts I am going to be looking at a baby's learning process from birth to 24 months.

From birth to about 6 months a baby learns primarily through the various senses of sight, sound and touch. It takes a while for a baby's sight to develop, in fact they are not able to focus properly for a few weeks, but can detect shapes and movement, which is why baby mobiles and cot toys can be both stimulating and comforting.

A baby is already used to the sound of its mother from the womb and will continue to receive a great deal of comfort from hearing her talking or singing. This reaction can be reinforced with the additional sounds that can be provided from musical mobiles attached to the cot.

As baby continues to develop they will become more interested in their surroundings and start to develop their sense of touch and explore their hands and feet and anything else within reach, which is a good time to introduce them to soft cot toys. These will give baby the opportunity of learning about different shapes and textures.

I believe that apart from anything else, the most important part of a baby's development during this early period is without doubt the love and attention it receives from its parents.

Hi Guys, I guess at some stage during the summer vacations you will be spending time in a car, plane, airport or maybe a bus or train, either way you will want to be prepared, so here are my tips to help you get your vacation off to a great start.

Plan well before you start your vacation - planning and preparing what you are going to take with you in advance will help to avoid last minute panics and reduce both you and your kids stress levels.

Pack all your favourite kids musical toys, activity toys and puzzle toys in one place ready to load, or at least make a list and don't forget to include spare batteries or chargers.

Expect the unexpected and plan for it - if you expect to be delayed on your journey and plan for it, you can turn what could be a very frustrating situation into an adventure. Kids copy what you do and pickup on how you feel, so the chances are that if you are enjoying yourself then so will they.

Making sure you have all of their favourite kids musical toys, activity toys or puzzle toys or even something new that they are not aware of in one place and at hand will help to keep them entertained and you happy.

KIDS MUSICAL TOYS- A BABY AFFAIR!

HI Guys, its Fathers Day and my wife and I have been invited to a BBQ with our daughter, her partner Stephane, who is a wonderful French guy and our granddaughter, along with all Stephane's family, including his two sisters and their new babies.

As you know we live in France so this is a typical French BBQ, everything comes except the kitchen sink and starts with the obligatory aperitifs, pink champagne and Ricard (a kind of aniseed liqueur mixed with water) but very potent, followed by a very protracted meal including plenty of wine. This was the first opportunity we had to see the two new babies and to give them their first of many Baby Musical Toys.

It was great to see them introduced to their new Musical Baby Toy, which they just loved and our granddaughter, who is now 30 months, was also well in on the act. Having had first hand experience of seeing their delight in their new toys, I thought it would be good to review these for you today.

The first is the Fisher Price Go Baby Go - Crawl-Along Musical Ball:-

This is the latest addition to the Go Baby Go line and it features an adorable monkey balancing on the top of a brightly colored musical ball. As baby bats at the monkey, the ball rolls along and the monkey bobbles while he tries to balance on top. Baby is rewarded with one of 2 fun tunes and 3 silly sound effects, encouraging them to bat the ball again and again. It requires two "AAA" batteries which are included. Good reviews and value.

Next is the Fisher Price Crawl-Along Drum Roll:-

Whether sitting or crawling, baby can make exciting things happen with the Crawl-Along Drum. Sitting babies can tap the bongo drums for fun music, sounds and lights. KIDS MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS - SOMETHING UNUSUAL!

Hi Guys, I am always on the lookout for something unusual or different for Kids Musical Toys or Kids Instruments, which I think would be fun for all the family and not just for the kids.

While recently watching an episode of the UK series of 'The Apprentice', which also has a USA version with Donald Trump I saw a great Kids Musical Instrument being demonstrated on one of the tasks set for the apprentices. Hi, I was watching a program on the TV last night about child musical prodigies, or more particularly a very talented 16 year old composer and conductor who was searching for a number of special child musicians to play his new composition.

I was absolutely amazed at the incredible talent of these children as young as 8. He traveled to China in search of a pianist and interviewed 5 musical prodigies from ages 8 to 13 and finally chose the 8 year old. Kids Musical Toys - Going back inTime

Hi, I have been thinking lately that when you buy kids musical toys, a musical baby toy or musical mobiles you also have to buy batteries of one kind or another to make them work. OK in a lot of cases they are supplied by the manufacturer, but not all and they still need to be replaced quite regularly.

Kids musical toys have been around for thousands of years in one form or another and obviously the early musical baby toy did not need batteries, because they had not been invented. So I have been looking around to see what kids musical toys are available that don't need batteries.

Let me tell you it has not been easy to find a musical baby toy that does not require batteries, but I have found a few which may appeal to the purists amongst you.

The following are a few cute examples of a wind up musical baby toy that should keep your baby amused and save you some money in the long term.

Taggies Wind-up Musical Menangerie is a cuddly classic brown teddy bear in light green pj's - 13"in height and plays Teddy Bears Picnic. Hi Guys, we have just finished a hectic weekend looking after our two year old granddaughter while mom has been away. Although I have to admit to being quite exhausted, she’s a real live wire you know, but an absolute joy and adores children’s musical toys, which certainly helps to keep her amused.

I was watching her play with her toy mobile phone and amazed at the way she copies everything she sees her mum and dad do with their phones. Finally I would like to recommend an old favourite kids musical toy for the baby just learning to walk, the Toddlerz Push Toy - Melody Push Chime.

As children‘s musical toys go this is a classic. The Fisher Price Push Toy Melody Push Chime is a little chime-filled drum on wheels (with attached handle) that rings and jingles as your little one rolls it along. Brightly coloured, with a menagerie of musical animals on the drum, the Melody Push Chime makes walking for beginners fun. As you would expect with all Fisher-Price toys, it's built to last, has great customer reviews and a very good price.

KIDS DRUM SETS - TIPS & TRICKS FOR BEGINNERS!

Hi Guys, following on from my previous post "Lets Make Some Noise", I thought I would give all those kids who are keen to learn to play drums and their dedicated parents some tips and tricks of the trade, learnt from bitter experience.

One of the first things to know is how to set up the kids drum kit properly so that everything is within reach and at the right height. Starting with the snare, which should be about level with your child's waist when seated and slopping gently away from them. The high tom toms should be angled down towards them and the floor tom tom on the right at the same height as the snare, slightly angled towards them. The idea is that they should be able to move around the kit from left to right in as smooth an action as possible, without over reaching.

The next task is to ensure that the kids drum set is tuned. This is quite difficult and can be a question of trial and error until you find the right sound, but it normally starts with the base drum, which should be tuned to a low "E" on the piano or keyboard. Tuning is achieved by turning the screws on the lugs around the rim of each drum, which tightens or loosens the head until you achieve the right sound.

So starting with the base drum you should work backwards via the floor tom tom, high tom toms and snare so that each drum has a slightly higher tone than the last. The snare has a sound all of its own.

When I first started to play one of the biggest problems I had was drum creep. This is when the base drum moves forward every time the base drum is struck with the base peddle. The base drum has spurs on each side which rest on the floor to support the drum and if these are not anchored properly the base drum and everything attached gradually moves away from you, which is a nightmare when you are playing.

An easy way of avoiding this is to set up the drum kit and stool on a piece of mat, which keeps everything together and it anchored by the stool. It also stops nasty scratches on the living room floor.

This may seem a bit daunting, but is all part of what is required for kids to learn to play drums correctly. I would recommend that you invest in a good instructional book or DVD like "Getting started On Drums" featuring Tommy Igoe.

This is a great introduction for kids to learn to play drums. Its in a DVD format so it really brings drumming to life in an easy to follow format by a great teacher. Great reviews and highly recommended.

Hi Guys, I bet like me you have been guilty of playing air guitar in front of the mirror, playing along with your favourite guitarist, so today I thought we would have a look at some guitars for kids and perhaps dad can even get in on the act.

Children's guitars come in various sizes from the very small toy musical instruments to the 1/2 size acoustic for classical or folk or the cutaway solid electric guitars for kids who are a little older as they need to be boosted through an amplifier.

My choice for today are three acoustic children's guitars of varying quality and price.

This Austin Bazaar 25" kids acoustic guitar is made from wood (not plastic) with a glossy black finish and comes with nylon strings, which are much easier on young fingers, neck strap, carrying case plectrums, tuning fork and spare strings. It is recommended that you tighten up the screws on the tuning knobs before attempting to tune the guitar as they may move when the strings are played. It is likely that children's guitars like this are going to need tuning frequently. Good reviews and an exceptionally low price make this a winning starter guitar for kids.

Westwood are quality kids instruments designed for the budding classical guitarist, with first class workmanship from such a small price tag. The top is spruce and the back and sides basswood with a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. It has nylon strings for ease of use and a quality neck strap and carrying case. For the money I don't think children's guitars come better than this.

A very nice quality instrument, ideal guitars for kids just starting to learn to play from a very good manufacturer. As is comes with steel strings it may prove to be a little more of a challenge to young kids finger tips, but it definitely improves the tone. There are no neck straps or carrying cases supplied with these children's guitars, hence the low price. You may need to buy a good supply of plectrums as they are bound to go missing.

KIDS MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS- LETS MAKE SOME NOISE!

Hi Guys, when I was a kid, I was lucky enough to be introduced to many different kids musical instruments, but unfortunately like most kids I had other things to do and didn't persevere, until I discovered the drums and found that I had some natural rhythm, timing and co-ordination. I eventually went on to play in a number of different bands as a semi-pro for about 12 years and maybe I can share some of my experiences with you in future posts.

For now I would like to look at some of the kids drum kits available for kids from about 3 to 8 years old. There is quite a choice but this is mainly down to colour and the number of drums included in the kit, 3 or 5. The quality of some of them for the price is amazing, just like a scaled down pro set.

A drum kit like any other musical instrument needs to be set up properly and tuned to get the best out of it, so you need to make sure that the drum set you buy provides full adjustment of the stands and the ability to tune the heads (skins) of each drum with a special key.

My drum kit top picks for today are:-

This is a great kids musical instrument, a full 3 piece drum kit with high hat, crash cymbals and throne (stool). It has wooden shells and chromium plated lugs with adjustable folding stands giving full control over the set up. The high hat cymbals are a bit small, but can always be replaced later. This drum set comes in various colours, has good reviews and is great value for money.

A full 5 piece drum kit with snare, 2 high tom toms, floor tom tom, base drum, high hat, crash cymbals and throne (stool). Includes everything your kid needs to start rocking, with wooden shells, chromium plated lugs and adjustable stands and legs, including drum sticks. Good reviews and a choice of colours.

Another great example of a scaled down 5 piece pro drum kit, ideal for the budding rock drummer in various colours, the metallic silver really looks the part. Made with real wood shells and chromium plated lugs and stands, fully adjustable. Good reviews and great value for money.

I think that any one of the above three drum kits would make your kids very happy indeed, although it might be worth you parents investing in some ear muffs until they get the hang of it.

Hi Guys, I was wondering if you could remember your first musical baby toy, well I am pretty sure that my first musical toy was a toy xylophone and in those days it was made entirely of wood and bamboo.

Well the musical baby toy has moved on some and now they are made of all kinds of materials. I have even found one toy made from organic recycled rubber, but unfortunately it didn't sound great.

KIDS MUSICAL TOYS - GOING FOR A SONG!

Hi Guys, all kids just love to copy what we do, which is how they learn and why they love music and dance. Its great to see them jigging around to their favourite nursery rhymes or latest pop song. So its only natural that kids musical toys should also include some grown up children’s musical toys like CD and MP3 players, especially designed for young kids.

The important thing to remember about these types of children’s musical toys is that they should be simple to work, entertaining and colourful to look at, but above all very robust to withstand all the rough treatment that young kids can dish out.

Having looked at what is available, I have found three children’s musical toys that I think you should check out.

KIDS OUTDOOR TOYS - SUMMER IS COMING!

Hi Guy’s, summer is on its way at last so I thought I would take a look at some kids outdoor toys that will give your kids hours of fun and entertainment and help to keep them from under your feet.

Kids outdoor toys come in a host of different varieties, but today I am looking a three childrens musical toys that can be used either indoors or in the back yard, weather permitting of course.

Kids will have great fun playing in this little playzone and mum will be happy knowing that her little toddler is safe. There are lots for them to see and do with an activity board with colourful spinning balls, play phone and light-up musical keyboard. This is a study construction with a hinged door and safety lock giving easy access to parents. It is easy to assemble and disassemble for compact storage, essential for kids outdoor toys. It is also possible to buy additional walls separately to increase the size. It has great reviews and is ideal for children of 6 - 12 months.

This definitely comes under the category of childrens musical toys and will give your child exposure to great rhythm and movement, creativity and coordination. With 20 tunes to play along to and 4 instrumental sounds plus a MEOW!. This kids musical toy allows them to record and playback their own compositions (with maybe a little help from mum or dad), control beat, volume and tempo. Great for indoors or oudoors, for ages from 2 to 99 years, good reviews and price.

This may not be classified as kids outdoor toys, but there is no reason why it can't be played outside in the yard where your kids can really let go. My two year old grand daughter just loves to hammer my keyboard when she visits and she has one just like this at home. These childrens musical instruments are a great way to introduce your kids into real fun music with a serious twist and I am sure you parents will want to have a go as well. Ideal for ages from 9 months to 3 years with great reviews.

BABY MUSICAL TOYS - BABY COMES FIRST!

Hi Guys, today I am going to be looking at baby musical toys for the precious newborn baby and pre-crawlers. Baby musical toys for the newborn are not really toys as they are designed to sooth, calm and relax baby, rather than be interactive and as such are a great aide to parents in creating the right environment for their new baby to develop.

So lets start with the first of the baby musical toys for your precious newborn baby the: -

The delicate canopy attached to the side of the crib hangs over the baby and provides soothing music, soft lights and gently moving soft plush characters. The lights can also be directed onto the ceiling to produce beautiful patterns. These baby musical toys can be fitted to all types of crib. This will definitely help to relax both you and your baby. Again this is a well made product with plenty of positive reviews.

My second and third choice for baby musical toys for today are for the slightly older baby, not quite crawling, but very aware of what is going on and raring to go.

Baby can lie on a comfy mat and gaze up at the large mobile looking at its refection in the mirror, while listening to the classical melodies or explore the textures built into the panda mat. They play 8 minutes of music with 4 classical melodies and songs. These baby musical toys are well crafted and have many positive reviews although it does need batteries which are not provided.

These baby play mats are great for the active baby who likes to interact with as many things as possible such as music (20 min of parent activated continuous music) and 8 to 12 seconds of light and music, spinning butterflies, rattling beads, mirror and movable and stationary activity toys. This is a great baby activity gym with good reviews and my personal favourite. Again batteries are required but not supplied.
